Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteer your services and skills to help romote your community and revitalize our downtown!

Main Street relies on its volunteers! Here are just some of the ways you can apply your talents, skills, and knowledge to help us grow!

How Can You Help Main Street?

Main Street Amherst can only be effective if we all work together as a community. Here are several ways that you can help:

Become a Volunteer-- Help Main Street Amherst with promotional activities, special events, etc. If you have a few hours to help our endeavors, call our Executive Director to express your areas of interest.

Become an active Committee Member-- Join one of our ongoing committees: Organization, Promotion, Design, Economic, or Heritage Tourism. New ideas and diverse talents are always welcome in our committees.

Contribute Financially-- Our programs are funded locally through contributions from businesses, building owners, local government, industries, individuals and families. Main Street Amherst is a community organization; you don't have to live or work downtown to be part of it. Your contributions are tax deductible and used to implement projects and programs to promote downtown and the surrounding Amherst business community.

Executive Board

Our Board of Directors and Committee Chairs are all volunteers who freely give of their time, talents, resources, and expertise to help grow Main Street Amherst as an organization capable of supporting and nurturing our historic downtown, local businesses, and the community at large.

President

is the link between the Community and Main Street, assisting the Director in defining priorities and directions based on the goals of the organization, guiding and facilitating the working relationships within Main Street.

Vice President

supports the President, sharing responsibilities as delegated by the President, for the benefit of Main Street Amherst, and performs the duties of the President in his/her absence.

Secretary

serves as primary record keeper, responsible for transcribing the minutes of each Board and General meeting.

Treasurer

is responsible for fiscally monitoring the program, including keeping all financial records up-to-date. The Treasurer is ultimately responsible for seeing that the bills of the organization are paid in a timely manner.

Committees

Organization

To ensure a strong financial base with fundraising, develop a program for volunteer recruitment and coordinate communication and public relations for the ongoing efforts of Main Street.

Promotion

To promote a positive image of our downtown as a great place to shop, visit, invest and live, focusing on the needs of the community.

Design

To create and maintain the attractiveness and accessibility of the public and private realm of downtown.

Economic

To recruit new businesses to the historic preservation district, and develop a welcome packet for new businesses.

Heritage Tourism

To bring visitors, from near and far, into the historic district while promoting the area’s shops, restaurants and businesses.
