Come Help us Grow!

Come to Amherst and experience the quaint, small town feeling of a charming community with a distinctive business district, unique architecture, and a historic downtown that characterizes nineteenth century America.

Main Street Amherst has been designed to promote all aspects of the downtown business district by improving economic management, strengthening public participation, recruiting new businesses, rehabilitating buildings, and making downtown a fun place to visit.

Volunteers are always needed to help reach our goals! No amount of time or energy is too small. There are many different ways for you or business to be involved. Check out the Community Calendar for various committee meetings and events to learn more.

Miracle on Main StreetMiracle on Main Street

Hard to believe but Santa will be visiting downtown Amherst in just a few short days!  This year's event is graciously sponsored by Sliman's Jeep Dodge Chrysler Ram. The parade will kick-off at 6:00pm at the Amherst Public Library and head west down Park Avenue; ending at the Town Hall.  Following the parade, head to the Main Street Community Center for snacks and activities provided by local organizations and businesses until 8pm.  Santa will also be there to meet and greet children of all ages.  This is a great night to get a jump on your holiday shopping as many downtown shops will be open late for the event.  Enjoy dinner at one of our locally owned restaurants as well!

If your group is participating in the parade, line up will begin at 5:30 in the Library parking lot.

With the holidays fast approaching now is the perfect time to shop local!  Not only will you be helping the local economy, but you will also find unique and personable items that are hard to find on the shelves of big box stores.

Independent shops return more than 3x as much money per dollar of sales to the local community than national chains and independent restaurants return more than 2x as much money per dollar of sales than national restaurant chains.
