Come Help Us Grow!

Come to Amherst and experience the quaint, small town feeling of a charming community with a distinctive business district, unique architecture, and a historic downtown that characterizes nineteenth century America.

Main Street Amherst has been designed to promote all aspects of the downtown and commercial business districts by improving economic management, strengthening public participation, recruiting new businesses, rehabilitating buildings, and making Amherst a fun place to visit.

Volunteers are always needed to help reach our goals! No amount of time or energy is too small. There are many different ways for you or business to be involved. Check out the Community Calendar for various committee meetings and events to learn more.

What's Happening

Main Street Amherst and Premier Toyota are proud to present the annual Dancing on Main Street event. The festivities kick off at 3pm on Saturday, August 4th in historic downtown Amherst and ends at 11pm. The event is a community music festival, which showcases top area bands and helps promote downtown Amherst's great taverns and diverse restaurants.

This event is not possible without the 100's of volunteers to put it on each year. We are looking for volunteers to work two hours shifts from 5 pm to 10:30 pm. Please consider helping out by volunteering to sell drink tickets and/or check id's. Call (440) 984-6709 to sign up. Thank you.

Come to Walkin' on Wednesday on July 11th, 2018 beginning at 4 pm with the Farmer's Market on the lawn of Town Hall followed by the Car Show at 5 pm in the University Hospital's parking lot at 5 pm. Main Street Amherst has so many new things happening during these events which will take place the second Wednesday in July, August and September. There will be other types of vendors on the sidewalks along with a few musicians playing in different spots and an entire area for kids on the green space on Church Street. The Amherst Fire Department will have all their trucks out for all to view - stop by to see them at the station. Let's show the businesses, vendors, car enthusiast, musicians and etc. that Amherst wants to have these events.

Thank you to Vaughnteriors Shop & Gifts and the City of Amherst for sponsoring the Farmer's Market and to the following businesses for sponsoring the Car Show - University Hospital, Friendship Food Store #97, Lighthouse Insurance, Chris Schiefer Insurance, Tuffy Auto Service, The Morning Journal, Jamie's Flea Market, Neil Elkins Insurance Agency and Vintage Lighting & Wire.
