DC Itinerary

Join the Amherst Public Library at 1pm on Saturday, October 8 for a spine-tingling spooky season afternoon with the members of Ohio Researchers of Banded Spirits (ORBS)! Learn about paranormal research, field equipment, haunted locations throughout Ohio, and the many different spirits they have encountered during over four hundred paranormal investigations since their formation in 2007. See photo, video, and audio evidence that collected by ORBS during many of their investigations!

A Q&A will follow the presentation.

The work of ORBS has been featured on the Animal Planet series “The Haunted”, Biography Channel’s “My Ghost Story,” History Channel’s “Haunted History,” and Destination America's “Paranormal Survivor" and "Haunted Case Files."

Calling all crafters! Clean out your crafting closets with the Amherst Public Library's Craft Supply Swap! Donations to the craft swap can be dropped off in Community Room A during library open hours beginning Tuesday, October 11 through Friday, October 14. Donations will not be accepted before Tuesday, October 11. Please do not drop items in the book drops or elsewhere if the library building is closed. The Craft Supply Swap will take place on Saturday, October 15. Those who donated items will have an exclusive first chance to "shop" the swap from 1pm to 2pm. The Craft Supply Swap will be open to the public from 2pm to 4pm.

Donation of supplies to the swap is not required to participate, but those who donated have an exclusive first chance to "shop" the swap from 1pm - 2pm. Join the Amherst Public Library at 6:30pm on Monday, October 17 to learn how to create fake wounds with stage makeup, perfect for Halloween festivities! Special guest Sarah Swanzer will walk attendees through the materials and methods needed to create gruesome and ghastly wounds, and provide the materials for attendees to practice on themselves following her demonstration.

Suitable for ages 14+.

The annual Friends of the Amherst Public Library author luncheon returns this year! Join the Friends of the Library at the Sunset Terrace at Lakeview Park (1800 W. Erie Avenue, Lorain) at 12pm on Thursday, October 20 for an afternoon lunch program with Ohio-based author and artist Julie Zickefoose. As a naturalist, Julie's work focuses on the natural world, especially birds. She has published several books, maintains an online blog, and her work has appeared in naturalist publications like Birdwatcher's Digest, which has featured her artwork on 27 covers sine 1986.

Tickets are required to attend the event and include the author program and lunch. Tickets are $20 and will be available for purchase at the first floor lobby information desk beginning Wednesday, September 28.

Join the Amherst Public Library at 6:30pm on Thursday, October 20 for a relaxing adult craft night! Registered attendees will receive all of the supplies needed to make miniature potion bottle necklace, just in time for Halloween!

Join the Amherst Public Library at 7pm on Thursday, October 24 for a presentation from special guest, medical lecturer and patient advocate Tom Strong. Learn about the history of infectious diseases and the various drugs, treatments, and vaccines that have evolved in the last century to help eradicate these deadly germs.

Kids of all ages are invited to celebrate Plush Animal Lover’s Day with Amherst Public Library on Thursday, October 27 at 6:30pm. Enjoy bedtime stories in jammies and then leave your plush animal to experience an overnight sleepover in the library. Discover what your favorite friend did when you pick them up after 1pm on Friday, October 28, or ask an adult to follow along on Facebook or Instagram for updates on their adventures!

Calling all little ghoulies and ghosties! Come join the Halloween fun of not-so-spooky stories, crafts, and trick-or-treat in the library on Saturday, October 28 at 3pm. Costumes are optional but encouraged!

Spend Halloween evening with the Amherst Public Library and enjoy a screening of George A. Romero's genre defining film "Night of the Living Dead" at 6:30pm on Monday, October 31. Credited as the first modern zombie horror film, the influence of this 1968 cult classic is still evident in horror cinema and television today.

Movie snacks and bottled water will be provided for all registered attendees. Recommended for ages 12+. Minors should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
